The RCA PSAPP1R Appliance Surge is designed to protect those large appliances that other surge protectors can’t handle. It will protect all 110 volt circuit appliances like refrigerators, freezers and microwave ovens. And instead of just the usual warning light, the PSAPP1R sounds an audible alarm when surge protection is enabled while it continues to supply power after the surge has occurred. It does this through bypass circuitry which allows the protector to continue passing current to the appliance. So instead of having spoiled food in your fridge or having to unplug other appliances, the PSAPP1R keeps things easy by not shutting power down. Don’t let your appliances break down at the hand of a power surge with the RCA PSAPP1R Appliance Surge.

I bought this surge protector to protect our new refrigerator. We had lightning strike close to the house and it ruined our refrigerator and dryer. The control board on each were fried and the condenser on the fridge was shot. It is cheap insurance for a major household appliance and if you have a newer refrigerator, save yourself the grief and expense of having to buy a new appliance.

This RCA PSAPP1R Appliance surge protector is like car insurance , you don't know you have a good one until something happens . It seems like a well made unit . There is not too many major Appliance protectors to be had . A little large 3x5x2 inches , but for the technology it has , this size is most likely needed . We like the feature that the power stays on and an alarm sounds after a surge and all your food don't spoil,if you not at home for a while . After investing in a large Samsung Refrigerator this was also a good move to protect it . Our Surge protector is on the counter next to the Refrigerator in a homemade but nice enclosure , so nothing happens to it. Then we use a Appliance extension cord from the back of the Refrigerator to it. This way we don't have to move the Refrigerator if the Surge protector need's to be replaced somehow . This our only 20 Amp. outlet in this area and designated for a Refrigerator . We will give it 5 stars when we survive a surge with it .

This is working as described. No lightening strikes yet but the new appliances have computers in them so getting a surge could be very expensive to repair. It is important that when a surge happens for a refrigerator that the power to it does not go out. This one makes sure that you continue to have power if it is available. It is fairly large so look at the dimensions carefully before to make sure it will fit your need. Happy so far. The only reasons that I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it has not been tested in a real lightening strike and it is fairly large. I personally like to have my refrigerator as close to the wall as possible because they are big anyway.
