This timer is very quiet when switching on and off, which can be important if you keep it somewhere you plan to sleep. It's also a breeze to program, and simple to manually switch the device on and off by rotating the wheel. The normal on/off behavior will resume after manually switching the device. At the price I paid, there's no reason not to buy one for each device you'd like on a timer. The only caveat is that this only operates on two-prong devices. I have had several timers and when the last one broke down, I ordered two of this product. It is by far the best of those I have had. I have a light already turned on when I enter our bedroom at night and the one in the family room is set for evening and also is on in the morning when I get up to read the paper. The lighted dial also serves as a soft night light.
